November 2008

For those of you who couldn't make it up to Newbury, you missed a fantastic get together..... once again our hosts, Valley Gas, opened their doors to the congregation, They fed, watered & entertained us, ( I'm sure Jimmy was J.C. in a former life! ). As we sheltered from the storms outside we were made welcome in the warmth of the shop, with free hot chilli, hot band - Jack Rabbit Slim, even hotter Burlesque girls and of course....... Kool cars!

For those that did make it, ( even the ones that didn't take their 'T' because it was raining & too cold!! ;^) ) say.... I BELIEVE....see you at the church of Valley Gas next year!

Following the AGM, the old committee stood down and the new committee were thrown into the den.

The new committee

A big thank you to Terry Clifford for all the hard work over the last three years. The Beaulieu Show wouldn’t have happened without his efforts and those of Chris and Dan.

We are all looking forward to the New Year and the exciting prospects in store to move the club onward.

Here’s a taste of things to come from the Wheelers…

September 2008

Hope this newsletter finds you all well, and that you’ve managed to get out an about even with the atrocious summer that we’ve had.  I’ve put together a few pictures from some of the events that took place through what claimed to be a summer, and there is the date for the AGM!! Wed Oct 15th – Put it in your diaries, further details below.

2008 AGM

This years AGM will be held on Wednesday 15th Oct at The Chase Inn. The AGM will start promptly at 8.30. There will be a free buffet laid on, so please come along and support the event.

We could do with some new people standing for the committee as some of the existing team want to stand down, and I would like to stand down as Chairman this year. So give it some thought and step forward. It isn’t too hard and is rewarding when you see an event take place after all the planning.

Beaulieu Hot Rod & Custom Drive In – June 22nd

The Drive-In day at Beaulieu was a great success. A small number of Wheelers gathered on Saturday evening on site for a club barbecue, and so that we were ready for an early start on Sunday. The weather was dry at least, but came onto rain later in the evening so Dan’s awning became the party tent. Far too much red wine was consumed, and Sunday dawned with hangover and grey skies.

Within an hour though the sun was shining, and it continued throughout the day. The event attracted around 240 entries and the Beaulieu staff were very pleased with the way the event went. We even had Lord Montagu presenting the prizes.

We have given them our feedback on the day, and we are in discussions with them regarding next years’ event, which may stretch over the weekend. Keep a look out on this website for further details.

Beaulieu 01

Thanks to everyone that helped out on the day. Check out www.mankeymonkeymotors.co.uk for some great pictures of the day.

Curdridge Show

There was a small contingent of Wheelers that attended this year’s Curdridge show. After a wet start the day turned out sunny and warm, and it was an enjoyable day, and something a bit different to go along to.

The Lamb at Theale – Charity Show

To support Scottie Durrant (a fellow member of The Wild Bunch Nostalgia Drag Racing club) I took my slingshot along to Theale (near Reading) to raise funds for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance. This was the second year of the show and it was a great success again. There were a couple of live bands, prizes, raffle and cacklefest!!

It’s just about an hour away, so if on again next year perhaps a few of us can cruise along.

I know that Wheelers attended several more shows throughout the summer including the NSRA Supernats and Nostalgia Nats, along with the Hampshire Pageant of Motoring. I think the weather and price of fuel has put a few people off as the numbers attending events does seem to have been down on previous years. Let’s hope for a better year next year.

June 2008

Hope that you you’ve managed to be out and about this year so far. Weather has been a bit mixed but I know several of you have braved rain, snow, and even had some sunshine to get to events. I’ve put together a few pictures from these events, but the main thing to tell you about in this newsletter is our involvement with the Beaulieu Hot Rod & Custom Drive In day on Sunday June 22nd.

Beaulieu Hot Rod & Custom Drive In – June 22nd
We have been asked by Beaulieu Motor Museum to help out with the Hot Rod & Custom Drive In day on Sunday 22nd June. This event ties in with The Art of Custom exhibition which is running throughout the year on the site, and which features the art work of our own club member Chris Jones.

Helping out will involve assisting with the show field entry gate (vetting entrants), parking up the show vehicles, and general duties on the show field. We’ve also agreed to help with publicising the show and assistance with advice in the run up to the show. Beaulieu will be presenting some prizes and it’s hoped that Victory Wheelers can also.

In return Beaulieu have agreed that any club members helping out will be eligible for free entry to the event, and that the club can hold a club barbecue on the Saturday evening, and can camp over in preparation for the following day.

We must advise Beaulieu of members attending on the Saturday and Sunday so please return an entry form or please phone me with the details.

If this one day show is successful then there is a possibility that a weekend event may be possible next year.

 Curdridge Show
Another show that we have been asked to attend is Curdridge Show on Saturday 19th July. They would like us to bring along around 10 vehicles (rods, customs, yanks or bikes). We need to be on site around 9.30 and the show finishes at 5.00pm. It would be great if we could support this local show, so please let me know via the enclosed return slip or via phone, e-mail or at the club if you can attend.

 Hayling Reunion 2008
The 3rd Hayling Reunion took place on Sunday 18th May and was extremely successful. Thankfully the sun shone and the local council weren’t too impossible. Many thanks to Big Al for all his effort in making the arrangements and we look forward to our 4th Reunion next year.

Wheels Day
A few hardy souls attended Wheels Day and managed to squeeze all four seasons into one day! This year the club met for an early breakfast at Loomies café and then cruised up to Aldershot, where as usual the site was packed, with a prize being awarded to Brian for his new rod.

Ace Café
As last year there was a contingent of Wheelers that attended the Executioners Spring Riot at the Ace Café, and once again this was in beautiful sunshine. Haven’t any pictures come through but from what I hear it was a good night, with a late drive back along the motorway.
