Congratulations
Congratulations to Mik and Lorraine for their wedding which took place in July, and avoided the rain!!
Congratulations to Lucy and Shaun on the birth of their son Geno. Great to see the little chap at the Wheelers show in July wearing his club outfit. Shaun - get stuck into building that Tot Rod now!
2nd Hayling Reunion.
Before the rains came we did have a very successful 2nd Hayling Reunion at the Inn on the Beach. Thanks to Big Al for all his efforts in organising. General feedback was positive so maybe we can hold another one next year.

Probably need to make it more of a morning event as most people were on there way home early afternoon, and I think we surprised the pub with how many turned up. Shame we had to pay to use the car park due to the miserable council.
Euronats July
Early on in July in an attempt to get away from the rain Simon, Martin and I took the ferry from Portsmouth to Caen for the European Street Rod Nationals. It turned out to be a great weekend, with only some light rain to spoil the show n shine on the Sunday. I managed to drive along the tram tracks (well they usually run along streets), Simon took us on a tour of the university and commercial area, while Martin and Julie enjoyed the open top cruising.

On the Friday there was a cruise to the Pegasus Bridge where the first allied troops landed by glider on D Day, with a cruise out to a beautiful French village on Saturday taking in a visit to Hot Rod Eddys really cool rod n custom shop also. The amount of projects crammed into this garage and attached shed was incredible.

The attention the cars got driving through the towns and villages was amazing, and the sight and sound of around 20 rods on the ferry home is something I’ll never forget.

If you ever get a chance give this weekend a try I’d recommend it.
Switzerland next year anyone??
Victory Wheelers 30th Anniversary Show 2007 20th 22nd July.
The first thing to say about our show is a big thank-you to all the committee members for all the effort before and during the show, and to all the other club members that helped out. Was the show a success? Well given the absolutely atrocious conditions I’m amazed we got through it as well as we did.
I haven’t got the final figures yet (still waiting for final invoices from generator and marquee hirers), but I can say that the club has lost money. The pre-entries were around 40% down on Thorney which is why we had to drop to one marquee and make some last minute changes. It was either do this or cancel the show, and with two weeks to go it would have cost us almost as much to pull out. A full financial update will be provided at the AGM and I am keen to have an open and honest debate about the show.

Will we do one next year? Can we afford to do one next year? Was the venue right? Let’s debate at the AGM, but we really need your comments and thoughts. Give me a call or see me at the club if you want to have a chat. Once again, thanks for everyone’s help in making it happen.
I know you’ve all been out at a lot more shows, but I haven’t got any pictures or reports from them, so that’s about it for now.
Cheers

A new look for Lorraine?
Newsletter May 2007
Dear members
Hope youve had a good start to the year. The early sunshine in April was a great way to start the Hot Rodding year and I know from reports that Wheels Day was absolutely mobbed.
2nd Hayling Reunion.
Dont forget we have the 2nd Hayling Reunion event coming up this Sunday May 20th. It is being held at The Inn on the Beach, which as the name implies is right on the beach. Follow the signs to the seafront and turn right. Look out for the signs to the pub. I hope the weather is better than last Sunday.

Wheels Day
Although I couldnt go myself there was the usual club cruise from Wickham up to Wheels Day. Well I think there were two cruises as some people left bit early which is a bit of a shame as it would have been good to have all cruised together.
However, due to the good weather the event seems to have been completely overrun with all manner of vehicles. No one has sent me any pictures through, but the coverage in the months Custom Car was good.
The event was a first run out for Big Als new rod, and despite the open cockpit and no windscreen I think he enjoyed it. How many flies did you swallow Al!!

Gene Winfield / Valley Gas barbeque April '07
Now a report from Simon Philips about an amazing event at Valley Gas Speed Shop in Newbury which a few club members managed to cruise up to. Looking at the photos it could almost have been California!
"Can you get up to Newbury tomorrow lunchtime?" says Mick Mears ringing round, following a tip-off that rod & custom legend Gene Winfield would be guest of honour at an impromptu open house at Valley Gas the next day. Too good to turn down so Dan, Brian, Ray and I met up with flathead ace Jim Turnbull for the short run in California-like sunshine to check out the event. The place was packed but we slotted in out front and enjoyed a tour of the premises, shot the breeze with the assembled rodders and sunk a few cold ones. Gene was over to paint the Hot Rod Tiki '59 ElCamino and the Arizona sunshine must be good for you as he defies his age and seemed to be enjoying himself and the attention of the girls. The Valley Gas set-up is pretty impressive with some nice work going on, particularly drag cars. Club members Kev Rooney, Mick & Sandy and Crossfire Rob (on 2 wheels) also made it, sadly Calvin had Harley gremlins and didn't. As we left Brian remarked that we never did see June Whitfield....
Big thanks to Jimmy at Valley Gas for the hospitality, and Gene for being cool.
Ace Café Spring Riot
There were a few lucky club members who work for themselves or managed to get the afternoon off work that cruised up to the Executioners Spring Riot at The Ace Café. Again it was a perfect weather and the guys had a great time. Big Al had a few engine problems on the way back but top mechanic Matt (dont let him near your Ford) fiddled about and they eventually made it back at about 1.00am. Matt, remember not to push your sunglasses back in a car without a widescreen as they suddenly become airborne! Photos by Dan Bolton and Martin Griffin.
Beaulieu Auto Jumble
The club had a stand at the Beaulieu Motormart Autojumble on May 12th and 13th. Well done to Robin and Shaun for braving the horrible weather to man the stand and distribute a few flyers and show pre-entry forms.
Im not sure if anyone made it along on Sunday, but given the horrendous weather I doubt there were many visitors. If anyone did go well done and I hope youve dried out.
Victory Wheelers 30th Anniversary Show 2007 20th 22nd July.
The show at Broadlands is coming together. Most of the organisation is now complete with the event management company, and the main thing to do now is to get those pre-entries flooding in. So make sure you tell anyone you meet to SEND IN A PRE-ENTRY.

February 2007
Dear members
Happy New Year! Hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and are gearing up for the 2007 season. Although its only Feb there are only 7 weeks to go to Wheels Day on Friday April 6th.
Firstly apologies, as it seems not everyone received the last newsletter and so missed out on the club party night. They were e-mailed and sent out to everyone, but for some reason they still dont seem to have got there. This was also true of the AGM minutes, which are available on request.
We will do our best to make sure that you receive the information that is sent out, but the best way to keep in touch is to get down to the club meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at The Chase Inn, Waltham Chase. If you cant make it and have a question or query then call the club info line (07891 295066) and Ill get back to you.
So here goes with the first newsletter of 2007. Please take a couple of minutes to read this update as there are some important announcements.
Club Party
A huge vote of thanks should go to Lorraine for arranging the club party at the R Bar in Hamble in early January. The theme was a 70s night and it was great to see that virtually everyone made the effort to dress up which really scared the locals. If youd seen Big Al in his punk gear youd know what I mean!! Also good effort from Zöe Phillips who despite broken leg managed to get her Bay City Rollers (whoever they are) gear on.

Food was great and there were some real cool dudes and disco divas as the drink took effect.
Hayling Reunion 2007
As the Hayling Reunion went down so well last year weve decided to run it again this year as a warm up to our main show. This years reunion will be on Sunday May 20th at The Inn on the Beach. The new venue gives us a bit more space and it is right on the beach. Were still finalising the event with the pub and the local council (to hire the car park next door), but put the date in your diary. There will be a live band and food available.
Beaulieu
The club will be having a stand at the Beaulieu Motormart Autojumble on May 12th and 13th. This will be to publicise both our events. Well be looking for a couple of volunteers to man the stand on both days so if youre interested give me a call on the club line.
Victory Wheelers 30th Anniversary Show 2007
Hopefully you have heard a bit about the show already, but just to confirm that the Victory Wheelers 30th Anniversary Show will be at Broadlands House, Romsey on the 20th 22nd July. We are running the event in conjunction with RBT Event Management who are looking after all the logistics of the site, and dealing with all the pre-entries. This takes the financial liability, and health and Safety risks away from the club, and allows us to concentrate on the parts of the show that we enjoy.
The committee are working hard to make it a special show. The show opens at 12.00 on Friday and runs through to Sunday. The site offers free camping with catering / showers / toilets on site, and is within walking distance of Romsey Town Centre, and is adjacent to Romsey Rapids leisure pool and gym, with outdoor tennis, crazy golf, skate park and childrens play area.
There will be
Two marquees one Rock n Roll and one General Entertainment.
Live Bands The Planet Boppers, Time Bomb (ex 2 Tonic), and The Mosquitoes.
Marvin playing the rock n roll tunes
Wet T shirt
Bars in both marquees, but you can bring your own booze also.
Traditional Fun Fair Dodgems, Chairoplanes, Waltzer (rides TBC)
Cruise or two were still working on the final venue
Sunday Show n Shine
Plus more to come
Pre-entries are already coming in, and if you attended Thorney last time you should have received a pre-entry form. If not you can download one from the Wheelers website
There will be some more flyers being produced in the near future and these will be available for distribution. Please take some and spread the word. Its going to be a great show, at a great new location.
Membership
Thanks to the good work of Lorraine once again, we have had an increase in members this year and are up to 42 in total. This is an excellent number and should keep the club going strong through the year. Now if everyone brought their cars to the club that would be superb!
Membership cards and NASC cards for those that have requested them will be going out soon.
Club T Shirts, Jackets, Sweatshirts, etc.
We are looking into producing some new club T shirts for our anniversary year, and some members have asked if we can get jackets or sweatshirts as well. These will probably be available to pre-order before the show season kicks off. Martin is working hard at designs, but if you have any ideas let myself or Martin know.
Thats about it for now, but get in that garage and finish off all those unfinished projects.
Cheers
